Fertility Talk: Path To Conceiving

11:21 PM

For any couple choosing to have a baby is a process. However, I thought it to be helpful to dive into my #doulabag and chat about my knowledge of conceiving as a same sex couple in celebration of the launch of The Modern Doula Online Nutrition Fertility Clinic.

There are a few different ways to decided how it is that you want to conceive and also a few processes to go through that a lot of couples don't anticipate or have enough knowledge of. I decided to break down this fertility talk articles into parts.

Let's use the first installment of this article series to briefly chat about the different types of insemination with a focus on those who are interested in an at-home insemination.

Intravaginal Insemenation (IVI) is a non-surgical process that is most commonly performed at/in the home. It is the process of using known sperm, usually deposited directly to the couple/person immediately and is used vaginally versus directly into the uterus.

Intrauterine Insemenation (IUI) is a common procedure where sperm is washed and prepared and placed directly into the uterus near the egg during ovulation.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is when eggs are extracted from the ovaries and mixed with sperm for fertilization.

When choosing which process you would like to under-go it is also important to think about where your sperm will be coming from like a sperm bank or a known sperm donor and when choosing the option of at-home insemination to research what midwives, doulas, or montrice's in your area are experienced with insemination in the event that you may need some assistance or have questions.
